Prussiks and split tails are used in a wide variety of applications in climbing and rigging. Not all prusiks are created equal though! Some can resist more heat than others, depending on the type of fiber used. If you are climbing big trees and have a long descent, be careful not to over heat your cord.
What is Technora?
Technora is an aramid that is useful for a variety of applications that require high strength or chemical resistance. This material is so strong it was used by NASA to to suspend the NASA Mars rover Opportunity from its parachute during descent!!!
What is Vectran?
Vectran’s golden fibers are noted for their thermal stability at high temperatures, high strength and modulus, low creep, and good chemical stability. They are moisture-resistant and generally stable in hostile environments.
What is Nomex?
Nomex and related aramid polymers are related to nylon, but have aromatic backbones, and hence are more rigid and more durable.
